lifting and plyos

Which should you do first? Plyometrics and then working out? Or Lifting then plyometrics? Is there any amount of time if should put in between these two? Thanks.

Re: lifting and plyos

Do you mean when you are a beginner that has just started to train or when you know what you are doing but you dont know which order to do it in?

Re: lifting and plyos

i would say it depends on the kind of weight training you do if your lifting really heavy and feel tired afterwords than i would do plyometrics beforehand. but some people split them into completly seperate days i.e plyos one day weight training another. hope that helps.

Re: lifting and plyos

Plyometrics after strength training, though you should try to break these up onto seperate days.

Re: lifting and plyos

Why plyometrics after weights? I can always jump higher before I lift weights and we want to try to train are bodys to be jumping higher right? I just don't get it.  I could definetly understand splitting it up on different days but tvp doesn't do this.

Re: lifting and plyos

But when you lift for increased strength don't you put a strain on your cns.  This making your plyos alot less effective since they will give you the biggest benefits when your cns is the closest to 100%.  But your strength will not be as adversly effected by a drained cns.  Example I have my highest jumps when Im completely fresh, and when my legs are worn out I will jump noticeably lower.  Where as my squat and deadlift 1rm will barely drop if at all when my legs are sore.  Another point is plyos have huge impact forces and if your worn out from heavy lifting and then do plyos your running a big risk of injury right? Well that's how I've come to understand it, if you could explain why you would lift weights before plyos I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Re: lifting and plyos

You just dont do plyos after weight lifting its just not right, like you said you have to train your body to be jumping higher not lower.

Re: lifting and plyos

I would say if your gonna do em both on the same day do the plyos first since you wanna make sure your fresh for these.  Plyometrics are performance exercises and are really focusing on training your speed and central nervous system or cns.  Ounce your performance in any plyometric exercise starts to drop STOP then you can go on to your strength training. But why not just stick with the previous program you described with plyos mon and thurs and your bodyweight trainging on wed fri. That seemed to make sense with plenty of time for recovery inbetween workouts.

Re: lifting and plyos

No I don't think so because even though your not using your legs your still draining your cns.  Your cns is like your energy source for your whole body.   It needs time to rest also.  Otherwise your never gonna be fresh for your next day.  As for when else you could do them you could probably just do them after your lowerbody workout same day.  You might need to lessen the volume of your weight session with your legs so as not to completely drain your self on the weight lifting days.  Or if your plyo days are short workouts wich they probably should be if you stop when performance drops , you could do your upperbody weights after the plyos.

Re: lifting and plyos

well yeah, im on my bodyweight strenght program though, so im not really doing any weight lifting with my legs. And also, i have to mow mine, and my neighbors lawn once a week, so even after plyos or before plyos or something like that, would it be okay to do that, or do i just put the stuff off for one day? Because mowing can be up to an hour or an hour and a half
