Power cleans...

I'm starting a vertical jump program that requires the Power Clean as an exercise. I spoke to a trainer about it because I was new to this exercise. And he told me that the method was very crucial and that alot of amatures try this exercise without the proper technique which leads to nothing or even injuries. He also said it could take awhile to perfect it, but i don't really have that kind of time,  my point is i was wondering if there are any other exercises or weight lifting  that are the equavalent of a power clean, that I could replace in my program.

Re: Power cleans...

you may as well try and learn it...i don't think it;s as technical as he made out as i picked it up pretty quickly but depends how experienced you are...tips to focus on include:

- keep back straight the whole time...if back rounds when lifting from the floor than only lift from mid shin or even knee ht depending where it does round

- raise by pushing heels "through" the floor

- bum should start down and back as though your trying to sit down on the toilet

- as you get to the middle of the lift?? thrust your hips and knees under tha bar as you rack it over your shoulders

- i would suggest warming up wuth the BB Clean and Press and doing working sets with DB's which will limit the wt you can use when going heavy which wil decrease injury risk

hope this helps and hopefully someone has more tips

Get the trainer to help you with your form too, that's what they're paid for
