Thats a very good vertical for a 12 year old. Did you do any programs to get that or is it just from jumping?

Have you checked our reviews of the top vertical leap programs?

I started Air Alert 3, and I made up my own program. Accually, I made a deal with my father that I would try to dunk in the 8th grade.

You can find a lot of programs by doing a google or yahoo search. Just type jump higher exercises or something like that and browse through the results and you'll find a great deal. There are also exercises posted on number of forums.
However if you wanna really make sure you are working on something that is tested proven you can check out my website.

just getting tronger will increase your vert at your age...don't even bother with plyo's your joints aren't ready for them you'll just end up hurt..do 1 leg squats and / or pistols and you'll see an increase...also don't negelct core work, push ups and inverted rows and / or chin ups

not necessarily. Have you heard of players like James White or Michael "Wild Thing" Wilson? Their legs are so slim and yet they can jump like crazy. It's not always the case with how strong you are although that too has it's role. If I were you, I'd just focus on finding whatever material I can on the net, free programs, there are lots of them, or just jump as much as I can, and you'll see how much you'll gain.
Bear in mind that if after practising or playing bball or whatever you find that you've overworked your legs, no matter where the muslces hurt, take a rest . Don't jump at all for a day or two. See how your body corresponds.

at his age strength would be the best thing to work on with bw squats, 1 leg versions ect....you wouldn't have him doing plyo's yet surely, he's 12!!

I agree. He's got lots of time. I know people who could jump at all and they started increasing their vert when they were 18 and they still turned out quite well. You can even start when you are older so it's never too late.
