Re: I dont understand

could be a range of things:

- how warmed up you are
- how fresh you are (overtrained or not)
- physical / mental conditions

i don't think there's 1 particular reason

Re: I dont understand

yeh muscle fatigue is a big factor. If you've just done a big workout, your vert can be down. (including the following day..)

When I did VP, i found I hit both ends of the spectrum. On workout days which had squats, my vertical leap was at its smallest straight after,
though on workout days when my hams where the focus, my vert would max out & continually hit the heighest its ever been on those days.

In short don't worry about the fluctuation, just make sure you try to measure your vert weekly, and always on the same day & time.

p.s. in a normal non training day, your vert will often be at it's max around 4pm (max endorphins being released)

It's because of this that most world records on average are broken around this time. And if your a michael jordan fan, you'll know in his famous free throw slam dunk poster, the time on the clock is reading 3:51... nice timing mike!

ok i see, well  my vert was real low today, i was two inches under the rim, is it possible that your vert may decrease?

Re: I dont understand

testing vert can be a an excellent way to detirmine how fresh your nervous system is...if you test such as you are and it's lower than usual than don't train until vert is back up to where it should be as you haven't fully recovered from previous session

Re: I dont understand

any muscle trained that you are lifting 1 - 5 reps will strain the nervous system but you shouldn't be maxing out that often anyway...depending on what upper body program your using maxing out every 4 weeks is probably more than frequent enough..there's no real point doing max lifts a lot just to see what you can lift if it will interfere with your main goal of jumping higher
